The long, slow march towards Romney

Santorum looks to lose is home state, which would be a blow to his future national viability. And Santorum's taken four days off (though it is Easter Weekend...)

Freepers continue to slowly, slowly acknowledge reality:

PennsylvaniaMom is thinking short term:

I can’t WAIT for the Myth WASTE of campaign funds to start here in PA. If Rick loses at least he takes a couple million of Mittens warchest down with him. And each commercial in the Bishops’s deluge of dirt is less he has for future endeavors.

ScottinVA is long term:

Like I’ve said in other threads... with Romney all but locked down as the GOP nominee and on schedule to graciously — but convincingly — lose to Obama in November, the opportunity to field-test a strong third-party conservative candidacy may be presenting itself.

While hope for an actual victory at the outset would be unrealistic, the intent this year would be to make a statement that conservatives recognize the GOP is no longer their political home.

The strategic objective would be to build toward future growth as a party that actually gives voice to Tea Partiers and other real conservatives. The GOP isn’t getting it done anymore. The break is going to have to happen sooner or later.

God Told CatherineofAragon not to vote Romney:
If you can cast a vote for that abortion-lover and sodomite-panderer, then I suppose you will do it. But please don't tell me I must also sell my soul. I've been praying about this decision, and I believe I've had confirmation that supporting Romney would be a sin for which God would hold me responsible. After all, in the end, my responsibility is to Him before anything or anyone else.
Diogenesis exhorts:

To save America, .... Romney should pull out.

LibLieSlayer is resigned:
If Rick loses... we all lose... and that is a fact. Sad days for America and Conservatives. romney may be better than obama but he is worse than mccain and ford put together... and that stinks bigtime. mitt makes neslon rockefeller look good in comparison. Yipeeeeeeee... we get to vote for a socialist cultist liar.

Mountain Mary knows that if Rick drops out, he's not a quitter - he's a martyr!

The Romney campaign has vowed to “destroy” Rick in his home state. How nice! So even if PPP’s poll were different(and likely wrong and fueled by the RNC), it would be a brutal three weeks for Rick.

Rick is first and foremost a family man. He cares about his role as father and husband more than you know. What a concept for a politician. He is not running for his own political opportunist gain like someone we know.

I would guess that if he pulls out, he is not succumbing to the Saul Alinsky threats of Bishop Romney and his band of merry thugs...but rather that he considers the effect on his whole family to be a major factor. and he has a special needs child who loves her daddy and needs him.

  1. The five stages of the Republican nomination process:
Denial: "No way will Romney be the nominee, and if he is, I won't vote for him!"
Anger: "The Republican Establishment is ramming Romney down our throat!"
Bargaining: "Sarah or Michelle or Herman or Newt or Rick. Anyone but Romney!"
Depression: "We're all going to die when Obama wins, declares a caliphate and starts up his Death Panels."
    Acceptance: "ROMNEY 2012!"

  2. Quite a few of them are still thrashing around in the kiddie pool of rebellion, but I think most will have fallen in line by June.

Unless of course this guy can get the Freepers behind him:

    2. It's going to be interesting, given how JimRob has made a big deal of saying that FR will not become "Mitt Central" and has zotted a number of people who have made statements of support for Romney.

    3. Good point, what will Jim do? He's making an enviable income running Free Republic, he must protect that at all costs.

He's usually a little brusque when he issuing orders to the sheep. I guess he will just tell the Freepers that they are all team Romney now because Obama must be defeated. What else can he do?

    4. I'm not sure what JimRob will do, but it will be very interesting to watch whatever he does do.
