DoughtyOne looks forwards to the death of print media:
That’s okay. I give it about three years before he’s selling it for 10 cents on the dollar.GeronL knows what the future holds:
Now it will become a real lefty rag.GeronL follows up by saying it with bitter, revealing satire!
Comrade Bezos takes charge of DC PravdaGeronL can't stop:
For the greater glory of the order of Obama, the great and wonderful Jeff Bezos, his magnificance has graced the presence of this journal of leftist opinion. May Vladimir himself smile down in this most wonderful of unions, allowing us to continue to smite thine enemies of socialism.
Comrade Barack Obama, President and Chairman of the USSA is pleased with this union and his wise benevolence is praiseworthy indeed. Glory to the future of the socialist USSA!
Now to be known as the The Washington People's DailyDa Coyote pipes up with his usual contentless excuse to call Obama poop:
My first thought was that the Democratic Party purchased it.Carry_Okie knows the problem is that democracy makes rich people too powerful:
But, I realized that there was no reason to waste money on something that already is well inserted up the Obamabutt.
It is easy to manipulate the value of an asset with the power of the press simply by promoting or panning it. When government gets too democratic, manipulating majority opinion is a way to use government to manipulate asset value, whether by ginning up regulations, lawsuits, or simply calling into question product safety. Even the timing of a news release can control the degree of profit made in the stock market.Moonman62 thinks this may be something patronizing for the wife:
Hence, the power to manipulate public opinion is a profitable asset even if the advertising and subscription revenues do not support continuing operations. Power is effectively power for sale. Always has been.
I agree it's a terrible investment, but $250 million is about one hundredth of his wealth. This is his ticket to political influence and a more powerful social circle. Or maybe he'll give it to his wife so she can have a hobby.stephenjohnbanker responds to posts about how Bezos's fortune may indicate some savvy by explaining that Bezos isn't really rich:
Bezos is buying stuff because his stock(like others) is way overpriced. He is playing with “funny money”It wouldn't be Free Republic without someone like Lancey Howard sensing gayness!
Bezos is a faggot? That explains his poor judgment.SamAdams76 has a folksy a trip down Imagination Lane:
The way things are going, I should be able to afford to purchase the New York Times in about five more years.P.S. thanks for all your kind words and suggestions on the beach. Should have some good stories from the fodder y'all sent me tomorrow.
I shall fire the entire editorial staff and will hire some Freepers to produce the editorials. I will run a "Caption This" contest on the front page and let people submit their captions online. Whoever comes up with the best caption of the day will win a free steak dinner at Sparks Steakhouse.
It will be a fun hobby for me and I'm looking forward to it. I might even get to hang out at Martha's Vineyard with the "beautiful people" every once in a while.
