Freepers discuss Alan Turing

I made a special effort to see 'The Imitation Game.' Afterwards we stayed behind and looked up a bunch of stuff about Turing on the Internet to see what kind of liberties the movie took. It was basically fiction. But, in the affliction so many of us Freep-watcher have, I had to look up what Freepers thought of the guy. I was expecting ignorance and revisionism, and I left satisfied.

Bonus, the thread I found was from 2009, so we can revisit many of the crazies of old who are now gone.

pissant doesn't bother to even figure out who this guy was:
Can’t trust poofers. Good rule of thumb.
LibWhacker is a single-issue hater - you're gay, who cares if you won World War 2?
Britain sinks deeper into the black hole of political correctness. Should we go easier on a brilliant mathematician who is also a crazed killer? No. One has nothing to do with the other. If he is a great mathematician, he deserves to be recognized for it. If he is a depraved human being, he deserves to be ostracized for it — or worse.

Libs... always wanting to drag us deeper into that black hole. I know lots of mathematicians who should be castrated. All of them are libs.
muawiyah thinks that sodomy wasn't the problem, and goes about figuring out what Turing really got in trouble for...
The law at the time in UK made 21 the age of majority. I don't believe back in the early 1950s that they were into gradiations of buggery based on age differntials or time dilation factors.

Just a straight up and down ~ of age, or not of age.

So Turing was not satisfied with the law and violated it.
muawiyah suddenly goes full historical relativist.
A man of Turing's status in that society at that time would have had no problem finding sexual partners of a suitible age (under UK laws at the time).

Now, should have been chemically castrated? Not for us to decide ~ that was a belief current at the time ~ just like old Joe Kennedy's idea that what his daughter needed to tame her libido was a frontal lobotomy!

The guy was buggering underage (at that time) teenage boys?

Sick.

  2. Something interesting from the opening thon beg boo-hoo thread ...

"If you have questions about your donation or credit card transaction to Free Republic or need help, please write to Jim Robinson at: jimrob@psnw.com

Or call and leave a message for Jim on his cell phone: (559) 273-1400."

Hmmmm ... this sounds rather reckless.

  4. Freepers (have the nerve to) complain about cyber bullying. Especially funny considering how often they mobilize to take over any discussion forum anytime, anywhere, but don't allow anyone to challenge them by having a completely closed forum.

They're also really, really bad at analogies about discrimination.

    1. Anyone here remember the sChip kid that that was in a commercial when Bush was going to kill the program? Freepers were among the RWNJs that publicised his and his families contact info and harried them into oblivion. And they dare talk about cyber bullying.

  5. Technically correct is the best kind of correct!

What, the gay villain in Skyfall wasn't enough for you?

As I said above, The Imitation Game isn't exactly Hollywood's best impulses on display; one of those is allowing the mere fact of a character being gay to stand in for drama.
