"Words had to change their ordinary meaning and to take that which was now given them. Reckless audacity came to be considered the courage of a loyal ally; prudent hesitation, specious cowardice; moderation was held to be a cloak for unmanliness; ability to see all sides of a question, inaptness to act on any. Frantic violence became the attribute of manliness"

Free Republic Caucus
Freeper DoughtyOne is doing something I do not recall happening in 2012 or 2008 - he's taking a straw poll of which candidates Freepers support, and using some scripting to graph it daily.
It's super unscientific, but pretty interesting nonetheless:
I wonder what happened Sunday to stem the Freeper flight to Trump?
Regardless, this will be pretty fun to monitor as the primaries continue!
I will laugh if Trump wins the nomination, then announces he's fine with abortion and same-sex marriage. Freeper heads will explode. The Cruz supporters will go full-on "I told you so".
He has already gone on record saying same sex marriage is the law of the land, many Freepers agree and don't care as long as he builds the wall and kicks out all the brown people.
I've been watching the folks over at FR for a long time (which is why it's great to see this website). I don't think we've ever seen anything like what's been going on at FR since the website's inception.
FR has decided to compromise their principles for a guy that was on television.
Think about that! They attacked people like McCain in 2008, Romney for being a flip-flop in 2012, even Sarah Palin has come in their crosshairs of crazy!
The reason? They think they'll win a sizable amount of independents and "Regan Democrats" with a guy like Trump!
These were once principled (yet crazy) Conservatives who are now deciding to go with a guy who once invited Clinton to his wedding?!? Do I have to remind you how blasphemous that would have been to the (arguably) "moderate" Conservatives of the late 1990s?
Considering that "Obamacare" (y'know, the most evil thing ever) was practically what Republicans proposed as an alternative to completley socialized medicine in the mid 90's, and they willfully forget that, I'm sadly not surprised.

That's why Euros compare him to Mussolini or Franco. Trump is basically a Fascist. NOT in the knee jerk Boogeyman/Hitler/Generic Insult sense, but in the real sense of an Authoritarian Nationalist.
Trump will (allegedly) "make America great again" (Mussolini). He'll protect traditional values (Franco). He taps into the frustrations of "Patriots" (low tar Fascism, by definition) and people with a psycho-sexual fetish for armed militias, men in uniforms and euphoric rallies (over half the population).
People have forgotten what Fascism is. It isn't Right Wing, it isn't Conservative and it isn't inherently Genocidal. It is about authoritarian leaders of highly patriotic countries with xenophobic and supremacist tendencies. "American Exceptionalism" in a nutshell. Just add Trump.
I think this has been done before, sorta. IIRC, in 2008, there was an ongoing poll in the bottom right-hand corner of the front page asking Freepers who they'd be willing to vote for. I always suspected (but who knows?) that the results were used to purge Rudy Guiliani fans.
I think Sunday was the interview where Trump talked about making nice with dems

DeleteDid he have to make almost every dot a shade of navy blue or dark green? What a crappy graph.

I really think the reason they connect with Trump so well is because deep down he's just a blustery bully.
