The USSC started out with 1 Chief and 5 Justices for a long time. I seem to recall an FDR plan, called the “Court Packing Plan” where he wanted up to 15 justices + chief. Somewhere they added three more to create an odd number.Just making up history brought to you by Gaffer
AFAIK, Obama getting his pick of three of nine IS court packing and I will not stand for it. I don’t care what we have to do to stop this, but we most certainly must.
"Words had to change their ordinary meaning and to take that which was now given them. Reckless audacity came to be considered the courage of a loyal ally; prudent hesitation, specious cowardice; moderation was held to be a cloak for unmanliness; ability to see all sides of a question, inaptness to act on any. Frantic violence became the attribute of manliness" -Thucydides

And Now This Word from Outer Space
Tthere will be 2 Scalia posts later today, and a bunch more next Monday (tomorrow is already in the bag) but I wanted to share this gem ASAP.
FDR (attempted) court packing in '37 was real enough, but the rest of the history lesson is grossly abridged and the conclusion is ridiculous.
