But Freepers have hated Nelson Mandela and loved Apartheid even in 2009 when their racism was note quite as open. As Mandela died in a time of high racist madness on Free Republic, the results are about what you would expect, only worse:
tumblindice wants some corpse desecration:
How do we know he won’t rise up and try to eat the guts of the living?driftless2 - the main problem with South Africa is the blacks.
To be safe someone should pith him or put a round in his ear.
My attitude towards Mandela correlates somewhat with the present state of South Africa...which is deplorable. Of course, most of the world looks at Mandela as some kind of a hero. He “freed” the black s.a.s from the Boers. The sad truth is that most black south Africans are quite unable to live a civilized, western kind of life. To say different is to deny the facts. The best thing that could have happened is the white South Africans have their own country separate from the blacks.Blackyce is not looking forward to the racism. What the crap is he doing on Free Republic? Will need to check into this guy...
I can’t wait for the next 20 pages or so of the standard “the blacks didn’t know how good they had it under apartheid” nonsense, that kicks around on FR whenever Mandela makes it into the news.Democrat_media laments the lack of white people in South Africa:
Yes Mandela was evilJimSEA thinks Mandela's mere aliveness was keeping the blacks from their natural whitey-hating ways:
a lot of whites still getting genocided in South Africa
I’m very much afraid that South African whites will discover that Mandela was all that kept the lid on wholesale race wars and expropriation. The mines and farms will be first. Zimbabwe here we come.Oliviaforever is not a fan:
He almost singlehandedly destroyed a prosperous nation and early went to prison for using terrorism to overthrow an elected government.See, the Apartheid Government charged him with terrorism before they locked him up back in the 1960s, so he's clearly a terrorist.
In America, we do not condone the actions of commie terrorists.
SkyDancer also believes everything the government said when they threw Mandela into prison:
Question would be: Why did he turn to terrorism against innocent civilians? Was involved in blowing up a night club that killed 23 men and women.RJS1950 knows he was only kindly all the time to fool everyone about how evil he secretly was:
He was a terrorist leader who during his years in prison figured out that he could better achieve his goals if he were the kindly, cooperative, just want to get along face of his movement. He let his POS former wife, family and followers be the enforcers and up front terrorists while remaining “apart” from all of that activity. He was a terrorist just the same and not deserving of the long life he led.HiTech RedNeck sees the problem is that Mandela never embraced theocracy:
Mandela could have been gracious and turned the glory to God... which would have been a segue to racial harmony... but did not. He was selfish and wanted idolization.I swear HTRN is getting crazier.
ProfoundMan heard Obama speaks, so of course Benghazi.
It’s a little unseemly that an American President got to the microphone faster for Mandela than he did for his own Lybian Ambassador.American Constitutionalist is still rolling Trayvon Martin:
Amb. Stevens was unavailable for comment.
They Trayvoned the whole place turning it into a trud world crap hole.I suppose using Trayvon as a verb is the best way fir your racism to stand out in a pro-apartheid thread...
Apartheid was the same as the segregation we had in this country 60 years ago, only worse. Freepers are saying apartheid was a good thing, so their only complaint about segregation is that it didn't go far enough? And they wonder why they get called racists.
ReplyDeleteTell me about it. They get worse every single day. The odd rational and none racist Freeper gets run off pretty fast now - or simply ignores the threads where the racist BS comes out.
DeleteSA has a lot of problems, many as a direct result of apartheid, but is slowly and rather painfully working through them.
And what is it with Freepers trying to talk what they think of as ghetto? It's embarrassing, degrading and downright insulting. Like watching some 60 year old white guy trying to rap.
Ah duh. That's what I said.
DeleteHere you go, Euphdick. You can read this while Ozy boinks you up your lily white ass:
Delete"With no military training himself, and in hiding from the government, Mr Mandela travelled abroad where he was offered financial and practical help by countries including Ethiopia and Algeria.
Mr Mandela was adamant that MK, as the armed unit was called, would not kill people but its tactics would be aimed at sabotage. In his own words, the aim was to 'hit back by all means within our power in defence of our people, our future and our freedom'.
On his return to South Africa, Mr Mandela and his colleagues set up regional command units and set about training their army in bomb making and clandestine operations.
MK carried out numerous bombings during the next 20 years and the pledge not to kill became redundant – in the whole campaign, at least 63 people died and 483 people were injured."

"White workers feared the large supply of African labor as the low-priced competition that it was. Hence, white tradesmen and government officials, including police, regularly harassed African workers to discourage them from traveling to the mines and competing for permanent positions. Beginning in the 1890s, the Chamber of Mines, a group of employers, complained regularly of this systematic discrimination and attempted to secure better treatment for black workers. Their gesture was neither altruistic nor founded on liberal beliefs. Indeed, the mine owners often resorted to racist measures themselves. But here they had a clear economic incentive: labor costs were minimized where rules were color-blind. This self-interest was so powerful that it led the chamber to finance the first lawsuits and political campaigns against segregationist legislation.
Nonetheless, the state instituted an array of legal impediments to the promotion of black workers. The notorious Pass Laws sought to sharply limit the supply of nonwhite workers in 'white' employment centers."

Damn motherfucker, are you that fucking stupid you can't even use Google?
Oh, how could I have ever doubted you when your sources clearly say apartheid was started by "leftists"? Oh, wait, they don't. Nowhere in your quotes do I see anyone who could even remotely be described as a "leftist", except maybe Mandela himself. You're not trying to say Mandela started apartheid, are you?
DeleteOh, I must have missed the word "union" in the article you quoted. Let me go back and see...nope, no mention of unions. Unless you mean a union of employers. You know the ones whose motives were "neither altruistic nor founded on liberal beliefs"? Yeah, that just screams liberal, doesn't it? Now who's the stupid fuck?
DeleteThat thread is truly ugly. Free Republic has become a de facto hate site.
ReplyDeleteYou really shouldn't be surprised. FR is full of old farts nostalgic for the Reagan administration. And the American (and British) conservative movement's love affair with apartheid in the 1980s is something that's shamefully been allowed to slip down the memory hole. Chapter 5 of Thomas Frank's 2008 book The Wrecking Crew went into some detail. A brief excerpt:
Delete"You don't have to dig very deep in the conservative literature of the eighties before you hit apartheid South Africa. Today the issue makes conservatives uncomfortable, naturally, and few will own up to the passion with which they once worked to rationalize that regime or to vilify its foes. But in those days, South Africa's agonizing racial problems, its prosperous but beleaguered business community, and its stout defiance of all things communist made it a potent symbol for American conservatives...
"[South Africa was] one of the only spots on planet Earth where the crackpot social theory of the far right--in which communists are everywhere and liberals are their "useful idiots"--was the official ideology of the state... [T]he government had made it a crime not merely to be a communist, but to agree with the Communist Party about certain things. The government defined its main internal opposition as "communists" and then banned and imprisoned them..."
In 1986 President Reagan actually vetoed economic sanctions against South Africa passed by Congress; Congress overrode his veto.
Freepers are not ones for sacred cows.
ReplyDeleteOf course they are! What do you think Sarah Palin and Ronald Reagan are?
Speaking of Reagan, I'm old enough to remember just how intensely conservatives hated Mandela in those days. "National Review," in particular, trashed him around the clock. While I'd like to think things have changed, I don't believe they have. So I give FReepers some points for being honest about their feelings...not least because I think the FReepers' hatred is a better testament to Mandela's worth than pious claptrap from politicians who demonized him back in the day.
That said, if anyone needs final proof that FReepers are the smallest, shabbiest people on earth, this thread is Exhibit A.
pious claptrap from politicians

Yeah, I didn't think you had any legitimate proof. You go on believing your wingnut version of history and leave the rest of us to reality. Even right-wing hero, Ted Cruz, called Mandela a great man. Just goes to show how far away from reality you wingnuts are.
ReplyDeleteHave you any actual citations for the fact that Mandela conducted acts of terror, or are you just relying on his association with the ANC?
ReplyDeleteThe powerful part about Mandela's narrative is that he endorsed violence, went to jail, and came out a man of peace and reconciliation. Calling him a terrorist is about as facile as calling Bush a drunk.
While I applaud you for rising above most Interweb master debaters by actually finding some sources, I gotta say they are pretty weak sauce when applied you your charge that Mandela himself carried out bombings and private executions.
ReplyDeleteAnd that second quote, about how the market makes people not racist? Ha ha wow.
Well, let's just go back and read what you said, hmm?
ReplyDelete"Mandella carried out bombings."
Gee, that doesn't sound like you were saying he merely ordered them like Hitler and Osama bin Laden did, right? And he even served time for his association with the ANC. 27 years of hard labor. And he came out a man of peace. That's where your argument that Mandela was an evil, evil man on par with Hitler or Osama bin Laden falls completely flat.
I'm speaking only to the claims you made, though I do like your fighting retreat to a different position entirely.
ReplyDeleteAlas, you have been reduced to comparing someone who was once a member of an organization that endorsed sabotage, to a terrorist leader who was unrepentant to the end.
Intimating that Mandela = Bin Laden. Rough position you find yourself in.
