"Words had to change their ordinary meaning and to take that which was now given them. Reckless audacity came to be considered the courage of a loyal ally; prudent hesitation, specious cowardice; moderation was held to be a cloak for unmanliness; ability to see all sides of a question, inaptness to act on any. Frantic violence became the attribute of manliness" -Thucydides
Hmm, that's some pretty weak sauce this week. Generally, there's at least one that makes me guffaw (or at least chortle), but I am a little disappointed this week.
ReplyDeleteIncidentally, the cartoon with the terrorist really does signify how twisted True Believer conservative logic is. I heard an NPR story a few months ago (I'd try to locate it if I wasn't at work) about how certain Nazi prisoners were taken to a secret facility in Maryland during the Second World War, where they were treated very well, and the intelligence officers ended up getting very good information. Of course, True Believer conservatives don't care about good information, they just want to punish "bad guys", and any information they get is acceptable, regardless of the quality.
