Trump's history is full of mercenary lurching from party to party. But he recently discovered how amenable the right wing is to empty populism. Just hit immigration, and attack the Democrats, and they'll be happy.
Interestingly, many Freepers recognize that the message is purely populist, but fail to see how that won't get Trump the Presidency. Thus, they argue that the rest of the country will rally around him as his hatred of Mexico and America catches fire:

Hit the podium weekly get vocal with the brutal truth. Name names. The public will love it. The whole world is watching.
