McConnell is going to back stab conservatives, he is going to team up with the usual suspects. He is the ultimate insider and it will be business as usual.

A person can be impeached regardless of whether they currently hold office or not. In addition to removal from office as a result of impeachment, it is also possible to permanently bar that individual from ever holding any office.

Not that any Dem would vote to actually remove an impeached Dem. However, impeachment proceedings could be started, get the press coverage, and then during the house proceedings, halt the impeachment and further the action to a special prosecutor for criminal charges. In the case of Hillary, this would be the better option as it will drain her finances and tie her up with legal proceedings. Essentially limiting her campaigning and fund raising.

For better for worse, Obama has been expanding executive power in the face of Congressional intransigence. But on immigration, it looks to me like he's being pretty careful to stick to acts that have pretty strong previous precedents. See, Congress has been dumping politically difficult questions on the executive for just about a century now, and immigration has been difficult for just about that entire time. So the President had a lot of delegated power in this area.

We'll see how broad Obama's proposal is. But to Freepers, it doesn't matter. They are against any change in immigration policy at all at this point, and also any Obama actions at all. But they also know that Congress is actually pretty impotent to challenge all but the most sweeping of executive orders. So all they can really do is rage and threaten and plan impeachment. Interestingly, a government shutdown does not appear as an option.

6th Circuit upholds gay marriage bans

In a reverse of every other circuit, the 6th upheld a ban on gay marriage. So now there's a circuit split and gay marriage will end up before the Supreme Court sometime in the near future (earliest: summer 2015).

Freepers have been getting beaten down on the gay front for a while now, and also don't trust courts. Plus, they just won in the midterms, so they don't need a win super badly like the have in the past.

Whenever the SCOTUS issues a “landmark” ruling, it should require “ratification” by the legislatures of the 3/4th of the States like any constitutional ammendment. The SCOTUS should not be able to ammend the COTUS from the bench...unless their ammending is ratified like any ammendment would require.

The Supreme Court does not usually take up cases it plans to uphold. So the fact that it took up the latest Obamacare case is not a great sign. Freepers, however, have so ingrained losing in Court that they daren't get their hopes up. The threads on this are real small. Maybe once Mark Levine explains this to them.

I can see where the SC would twist that pesky equal protection clause in the 14th amendment into meaning the subsidies are legal even in the non exchange states. Their logic might be you cannot give subsidies to one class of people in certain states and not to an equal class of people in other states. Instead of deep sixing the law, the court expands it by judicial fiat.
