I'm a liberal and I love Dirty Harry, I just upgraded it to Blu-ray. Its arguments and worldview are reprehensible and disgusting to me, but I find that part of its charm. And it's such a well constructed narrative. I'm always up for a Billy Jack, Dirty Harry double feature... how's that for bipartisanship!
ReplyDeleteAnd as for Song of the South, yeah, it's liberals that are all about censorship, not Disney who fear it might tarnish their image. It's a shame it never made it onto a Walt Disney Treasures set. Throw on the standard Leonard Maltin "This was made in a different time" disclaimer, boom, everyone's happy. But no, it's not Bob Iger's boardroom keeping Song of the South suppressed, that's all Obama.
I heard Obama also has a Blu-ray of They Shoot Horses, Don't They, but it's just for him and Jane Fonda to watch while they laugh at everyone else.
I don't pretend to like Reagan. I think many of his ideas and policies were misguided at best that did real harm to the country in the long run. And I think he was a good enough actor to fool most people into thinking he didn't remember anything when it came to the Iran Contra scandal.

Thank you for saying that, but I suppose my point was that Free Republic is entirely devoted to everyone and everything that Freepers hate. This thread was just one more pure, unadulterated example.

DeleteMostly, I think, it is simply a difference in age. We seem, in the main, to have grown up during the late 60s and early 70s, so the idea of civil rights / womens lib wasn't pounded into our heads every night on TV by frightened news anchors. It simply was something that is there and right.
I try to ignore them myself - come here to see what fresh stupidity they are up to, but otherwise don't bother with them. They are loud and shrill, sure. Betting the last dinosaurs were equally loud and shrill!
I know there's a lot of you, but the Republicans only respond to the crazies, even though the crazies hate them. Kind of like an abusive relationship.
DeleteReminds me of a bit they did on The Daily Show a couple nights ago: Last Gay Standing. Nate Silver and the politicians were so sure MS and AL were backwards states, but a gay marriage proposal in a Waffle House in both states got applause.
Always going to be crazies that need pacifying, on both sides. It is the squeaky wheel that gets the grease.
