Obama is proposing to make 2 years of community college free. I've worked adjacent to people who think on this issue, and most of them think it's a no-brainer in this age of technology that would more than pay for itself in productivity.

But Obama proposed it, so it must be evil. Thus, the GOP and Freepers marshal their rhetoric against it, as best the can. For Freepers, this means breaking out the tin foil and racism.

I don’t know about Cali but here in New York when I went in the early to mid 70s it was practically free. I forget but it was some insanely low amount, something like $600 a year.....until liberals took over the universities. I went the same time the WW2 era professors, teachers and faculty started retiring and were replaced by the “peace and love/anti-capitalist generation” which have now enslaved kids to practically a lifetime of debt in exchange for indoctrination into a political system responsible for 100 million plus deaths.

One of the proposed stipulations is that the student must maintain a C+ average.

So, if the said student maintains a C average, does that mean that he must pay back all the money?

If so, then there will have to be a whole system set up in order to retrieve payment out of the said "C" student.

Wouldn't it be much easier for the student to find a mack daddy like B. Hussein had, who paid for all his time at Oxidental and Columbia with no stipulation about grades?

This is nothing but a full-employment act for community college owners and personnel, with the “unexpected” side-effect of driving community college tuition through the roof. Pretty much like what’s happened with the existing student “loan” program.

BTW, if obama were to get this, the next step would be to want to “forgive” existing student loans because it’s “unfair” that THEY had to BORROW their money BEFORE the new freebee program went into effect.

We already have free PELL GRANTs for Community College educations.

This is a scam and intended for the ILLEGALS to get to go to college on the taxpayer dime. And adults can get this too, just like the Pell Grant, a great way to hide young muslims, as they get money in addition to an education, as they qualify for food stamps and all kinds of things.

I taught community college...this is not necessary. The Pell Grant will pay for everything, it is decided on parents or self income tax filings from previous year, and no paying back. FISHY?
