Freepers love Star Trek

Inspired by a picture you can expect to see on this week's Saturday Pix, and that I myself am quite the Trekkie I looked up some Freeper threads on Star Trek.

driftless2 loves the aaaawwful hippie episode:
Roddenberry...left-wing outlook

True, but they also did an episode where they lambasted space hippies. That was a pretty good rebuke of the hippies back in the sixties. But in reality, hippies were always the objects of ridicule back then.
boop also picks out the hippie bashing as proof his love of Trek didn't make him a secret liberal:
“The Way to Eden” is very apt, even today. A bunch of mush headed hippies being led by some insane old guy with kooky ideas about a Utopia. And when the find their “paradise” it turns out to be poisonous and deadly. Those “hippies” probably became conservatives after that!
Deagle loves how Star Trek is man's stuff!
Star Wars was for non Science Fiction fans... Heck, even the ‘girls’ liked this...

Star Trek - So much better...heh, real science fiction - man stuff.

Boogieman considers replicators basically Space Stalin:
At least in Star Wars, the good guys are fighting for a republic, and against tyranny.

In Star Trek, the “good guys” are basically the USSR of space, and the closest thing to capitalists are the Ferengi, which are painted as petty, amoral, greedy hucksters.
Fiji Hill is far too hipster conservative to watch such things:
Star Trek was one of the original commie dogma shows.

I quickly got that impression. That's why I only watched a few episodes.
bray thinks Star Trek is of Satan:

Star Trek was one of the original commie dogma shows.

Pray for America

hosepipe mixes up PC with sucky:
The one with the female Captain Kirk.. too political(PC) for me..
smokingfrog likes Janeway though:
If Palin were a Star Trek character, I guess she would be Captain Janeway.
The thread is actual Star Trek versus Star Wars. Space 1999, Babylon 5, Doctor Who and all sorts of other shows get dragged in as well, for those who care to click through.

  1. "Real science fiction"? LOL.

And if Palin were a Star Trek character, she'd be a red shirt at best.

    1. The more I think about Sarah Palin as a Star Ship commander the funnier it gets. I can just see the aliens asking each other what language Palin is speaking, "Is she speaking English?"

You are right, red shirt at best.
