National Review doesn’t DESERVE John Derbyshire.

Anonymous commenter noted this one, though I'd totally seen it.

Some Right-Wing blogger type named John Derbyshire posted an article called "The Talk: Nonblack Version."

It starts out saying "don't judge people based on statistics." But later it moves into

(10d) Do not attend events likely to draw a lot of blacks.

(10e) If you are at some public event at which the number of blacks suddenly swells, leave as quickly as possible.

(10g) Before voting for a black politician, scrutinize his/her character much more carefully than you would a white.

(10h) Do not act the Good Samaritan to blacks in apparent distress, e.g., on the highway.

This guy also writes for National Review Online, who fired him for this. As the above is not dissimilar to his usual milieu, this seems more a publicity thing than anything else.

Freepers, though, reveled in finding a new martyr and launch into some half-heated attempts to rationalize their own racism:

I didn’t say anything about acquiring a well-spoken black friend as a shield against accusations of racism; that IS wrong.

I do not want my sweet, loving, unprejudiced daughter injured or raped or killed because she is naive about the racial realities of big city crime, or for her to suppress her survival instincts and common sense for fear of being “racist.”

I did the exact same thing when my beautiful, naive 18-year old set off for UC Berkeley. She knew nothing of the dangers of black criminals. An acquaintance in the area filled me in as to the types of crimes committed against whites and Asians and who was committing them. Local blacks from Oakland prey on college students, robbing them of their laptop computers, iPads, iPods, cash and expensive bikes.

I too was called a racist. When I picked up the college girl at Christmas, I noticed her dorm was locked up tight as a drum with a clerk at the front desk buzzing in visitors and checking IDs.

On the front door of the dorm were several “BEWARE” posters of criminals who were snatching purses, backpacks, necklaces and computers — all were black.

She is much more aware now.

It's not racism, it's SATIRE. The same principle we were told we had to accept and be tolerant of when (for example) George W. Bush was portrayed as a chimp, etc.

It has been a vicious racist thing — smearing all whites with some collective guilt and perpetuating black hatred and entitlement, making black children both fear and loathe and hate and in many cases feel justified in physically attacking whites.

Derbyshire took selective statistics to show that white parents could much more rationally and justifiably warn their children about associations with blacks

Actually, that wasn’t gonna happen anyway. I sent them a writing sample on a lark (wasn’t really expecting much) and they called me a hack in a rejecto-gram email. I guess they don’t like investigative reporting or hard-hitting editorials that make libs look bad.

Derbyshire’s rules are really nothing but common sense. I was doing that 43 years ago when I lived in Little Rock, Arkansas, when the KKK was still a force. Now it is mandatory to follow those rules to keep safe.

My first experience in this was in 1970s Canada when we went up there to see the Olympics and toured the country as well. All throughout Western Canada the stop signs had two lines: “Stop” and “Arret”. As soon as we got to Quebec, the signs said “Arret”, then “Stop” and almost everything was in French and NOT bilingual. Their canned goods were bilingual and all the French labels were turned toward the customer.

Similar in the New South. I had worked in South Carolina in the ‘60s and saw a lot of demeaning discrimination that bothered this Yankee to the point I was glad to leave the place. In the ‘80s, on my first contracting job, I was sent to Macon, GA and braced myself for more of the same. I was stunned at the change - the white media and political structure fairly GROVELED at the blacks feet. I worked there five years and noticed, once it was pointed out to me, how whenever a black gained a supervisory position, no white person was EVER hired again and gradually the offices would become mono-color. There was a lot of “I’m on top now” attitude and the whites toadied up to them at every turn. Another sigh of relief on leaving, but for different reasons.

Exactly correct. There is no way a conservative can please a liberal unless he jumps in front of a bus or off of a cliff. It's a fool's errand to try to gain the favor or those who want you dead.
