Forgiveness

When FreepFan suggested this thread about some of the surviving Aurora victims forgiving the shooter, he noted the few deep and reflective posts sticking out among the crazy. Stuff like Delta 21's "By forgiving the shooter he is not allowing himself to be controlled by the past. Not dwelling on it and moving on quickly."

But while it is good to recognize that Freepers are (usually) human beings once you strip away internet anonymity and echo chamber effects, that's not what this blog is for. We're going to turn to the other 80% of posts, wherein Freepers tell the angels of their better nature to suck it.

laweeks hates the media's fig-lead-of-presumed-innocent use of 'alleged'
The mass murderer is still "alleged." So, by the same logic, are the victims of this scumbag "allegedly" dead?
23 Everest knows to forgive is liberal:
Shot 3 times and still a stupid liberal. They walk among us.
FlingWingFlyer, as an American, decides he speaks for the dead victims:
I’m glad that he has the luxury to “forgive” the murdering bastard. I wonder how the 12 who died and their families feel about the orange-haired maggot. As an American, I won’t forgive him for all the commie BS we’re going to have to endure from the commie ‘RATS about the Second Amendment.
Sir Napsalot goes on with the torture fantasies:
Well, Pierce O'Farrill's a better man than I.

If I were in his shoes, I want to carve up the perp slowly, and inflict as much pain as possible.
goat granny has an interesting philosophy - you can totally hate people on behalf of third parties all you want:
I could easily forgive the harm someone did to me.....the harm they did to one I love no way. In fact I don’t think we have the obligation to forgive the hurt someone put on another, only ourselves. I would hold the harm to my loved ones against him forever....I don’t have the power to say to someone,,,,,I forgive you for what you did to another person. Won’t find it in the bible either I don’t think..
Lurker knows forgiveness isn't Christian:
Another faux Christian who has no idea of the true concept of forgiveness.
Lurker explains that the other guy need to ask for it, or else hate away!
Unless and until the perpetrator truly repents and asks forgiveness a true Christian is under no obligation to offer it, nor should they.
Klemper seems to think there's some kind of forgiveness threshold for heaven, and also blames the shooter for sending all his non-believing murder victims to burn in hell:
Now how many more victims need to forgive him before the monster will be allowed into Heaven? (That is of course, if the monster finds God... he has plenty of time, of course, having all of that new study time in his cell), but his murderous actions, have caused many of his victims to burn in Hell for all eternity, because they had not yet found God..... (maybe they would have found God between that tragic night and the natural end to their lives.)
Shadowstrike's God is pretty old testament:
This moron thinks he’s being “Christian” by forgiving Evil?

Oh how God must be laughing at people like this.
Shadowstrike further thinks forging someone is putting yourself above God!
God hasn’t forgiven Satan.

Who am I to be ‘better’ than God.
imardmd1 forgives unbelievers out of spite, to make hell worse for them:
Pray for your enemies (including Obama, etc.), and be willing to offer forgiveness (and forget); for in doing so, you will heap coals of fire (figure of speech) on their heads, until they seek release.

  1. Notice how FlingWingFlyer doesn't hate the shooter for murdering innocent people, he hates him for the possibility of using the shooting as a gun-control argument! The dead are unimportant to him.

  2. 'Gay Boys In Bondage' by William Shakespeare?

I am not going to comment. I just wanted to re-post this. Good grief.

    1. That's the problem with formulaic Christianity--it opens itself to all sorts of dumbness. Say the magic words and you'll be saved? Anything else and it's eternal punishment? It's not really biblical, and I'm pretty sure it's a relatively new thing. If there's a personal God, I think he can see things in more nuanced terms.

    2. I think "personal" is the key word. Freepers are petty and so is their god; Freepers are vindictive and so is their god; Freepers lack nuance and so does their god; freepers hate gays, blacks, hispanics, libs (anyone different than them) and so does their god. Organized religion and group think has grown a god in their heads that confirms and approves of all their biases.

The Chick-Fil-A kerfuffle is pretty amusing. I’m not sure if the CEO is trolling, or he really thought he just float out some homophobic comments without incident. Chick-Fil-A Marketing manager dies, this can only mean a couple dozen different things. Freepers are crazy:

Libs are taking our rights and killing us!

And just to compare and contrast. Target starts carrying gay wedding cards:

all posts boil down to ‘EAT DA POO POO’

That one is just heartbreakingly stupid. When I was a kid working fast food they hired a young lady who had to make a column of the figures, 15, 15 and 15 to add it up to 45. True story. I feel the same way about Freepers as I felt about that young lady. Sometimes it isn't madness that's the problem at Free Republic. Sometimes it's just stupidity. And that just makes me sad.

    4. MDaF, that second thread is so predictable with the first or second post going right to the "Hey, why not make incest and bestiality cards?!?!" followed by lots of "Target is dead to me! I HEF NO SON!" On the latter, that's fine I guess, free speech/free association and all that. The former, however, shows a real deficiency of critical thinking in the Freepers.

Of course, after Target puts the bestiality cards on the shelves it's only a matter of time before you have to make out with a member of the same sex in order to be allowed on the checkout line.

  4. Wow... Actively not trying to be a good person because you don't want to be "above God". That's a new one for the religious lunatics.

    1. On one of the FR spin-off sites, TrueBlueLiberty.com, there was a guy who talked about hating his enemies with all the virility he could muster. And yes, he talked about his Christianity. I told him that I don't think there's any statement that could literally be at more direct odds with Christ's teachings. Oh, and that if you have to hate your boogeyman enemies that much, then you probably aren't that virile a person in the first place.
