Veep debate

A much more normal debate leads to the usual debate Rorschach where each can declare their own victory. On the margins, Kane brought more facts but Pence was calmer, which means he won in this fact free season. Of course, the bottom of the ticket matters less than usual, so it doesn't matter

Freep, though...

Tim definitely has a pedophile look. The face and lip actions, and his body language—it makes me wonder how many children he’s raped.
Lets devalue pedophilia to get our political jollies!

    1. I think you should tell that to your fellow Freepers.

    2. ConservativeMind seems to be projecting a little something there.

  2. I know they like to belittle their opponents whenever their guy get slaughtered in a debate, but they need to pick a narrative. I've already seen Kaine compared with an evil crook out of the Batman movies and Hillary's gender-neutral VP pick. So which is he? Diabolical supervillain, or fruity ineffectual candidate?

    1. To them he's both. He's a diabolically fruity ineffectual supervillain.

    3. "The followers must feel humiliated by the ostentatious wealth and force of their enemies. When I was a boy I was taught to think of Englishmen as the five-meal people. They ate more frequently than the poor but sober Italians. Jews are rich and help each other through a secret web of mutual assistance. However, the followers must be convinced that they can overwhelm the enemies. Thus, by a continuous shifting of rhetorical focus, the enemies are at the same time too strong and too weak. Fascist governments are condemned to lose wars because they are constitutionally incapable of objectively evaluating the force of the enemy." -- Umberto Eco, "Ur-Fascism"

  3. Romney guy here...

A VP candidate's job is to be the bulldog and be aggressive. It makes the presidential candidate look "presidential" without having to get their hands dirty attacking their foes. This is how it's always been. It's difficult for Trump/Pence because the candidate is the bulldog and Pence has to be the temperate one. Very strange situation.

Kaine's job was to take the fight to the Trump/Pence ticket and be aggressive. He interrupted dozens of times giving viewers examples of how Trump is unfit to be president.

He was very successful at his position, especially when the media is playing clips over and over again and in the clips are reminders of Trump's mistakes, missteps, gaffes, lies, etc.

Now this? THIS is a brilliant strategy- unlike those ones FReepers try to claim that Trump formulates- this is good because of three things: they get out message; they give examples of how Trump is unstable; and people don't vote for a candidate because of who their Vice President pick is (just ask Palin and Ryan).

They'll spin this how they want, but this will go in favor of Clinton.

    1. Totally agree here. Pence won, if "winning" is positioning himself for a 2020 White House run.
Kaine won if calling out the lies and humiliating the guy at the top of the ticket was the point.
Everyone got to wake up the next day to the litany of ways Pence didn't or could be bothered to defend Trump.
During the debate, Trump went coo-coo, tweeting and whining in all-caps about how the VP debate was unfair.
And yesterday, as if on schedule, Trump took credit for Pence's performance.
