I'm not one of those liberals who thinks that merely by wanting to shrink government and entitlements makes you a bad person. But I really don't like Walker. Not because he's an anti-union conservative, but because of how he goes about enacting his preferred policies. He seems spiteful. More than that, he seems to really think that liberals are actually bad people, and deserve bad things to happen to them.

And I also think he's one of the two most likely candidates for the GOP. He's crazy enough for the base, can appear moderate enough for the pragmatic Republicans, and the business folks love him since he hates unions.

His two problems are 1) he's remarkably uncharismatic, and 2) he was actually a governor, so he has a record of doing things in the real world. That means compromises.

So some Freepers are skeptical of Walker, because he doesn't hate immigration enough. Others are fully bought in. Freepers are not fans of diversity of point of view. So they fight. And it's as hilarious and petty and trollish as the Internet can get.

It's always interesting to watch Freepers flail around over the right story to decide is true, only to have their clarity locked in by some event. Usually it involves rallying to the defense of someone being criminally prosecuted. Hell, Freepers' nobility complex meant that it even worked for Chris Christie for a bit there.

It's even better when there's a picture, and better still when the villain is black.

So when the Baltimore DA charged 6 police in Freddie Gray's death, it's just about decided (and Freepers know all they need to about her from her picture). There are a few holdouts, but they will tire, and then this will become unquestioned and received wisdom as was Trayvonn Martin before.

My suggestion is many of these problems could be eliminated by reducing our police by 50% and encourage every law abiding American to be armed like the Swiss. Use the resulting savings to pay down our national debt.. Too many police leads to a police state.

So the police officers involved in the Freddie Gray death have been charged with various flavors of homicide. With the usual scattered exceptions, Freepers are fully on Team Cop now.

You could see this coming to their eager adoption reaction to the Police Union's rather dubious theory.
Now, stranger things have happened, but I will admit I'll need some extraordinary evidence before I buy the current police story that Gray broke his own spine in the squad car.

Freepers, though, cannot resist such a clear narrative. Blaming police violence on Democratic policies? Obama's martial law plan? Those are fun excuses, but there's nothing better than a good-guy/bad-guy story. And when one side is dead (and black), and the other is the police...Is it any wonder why the putatively anti-government Freepers always seem to side with the cops? Once the tribal line has been laid down, even if some officers are black, they're suddenly one of the good ones, and their race is just more proof they're correct!

I can believe it....you’d be surprised what injuries you can do to the body when in handcuffs and leg cuffs while trying to create injuries to yourself by banking your body around an enclosed vehicle.....especially since you know you can sue and settle for some fast payout. Riots in Baltimore

I'm back to my normal schedule, guys! Though I don't have my Friday spotlight, I'll be catching up all weekend. There will be pix and potpourri.

So another black man seems to have been killed by the police. This sparked protests, and then violence in Baltimore. Unlike Ferguson, it's a city run by a black mayor, with a mostly black police department. It really lays bare how the black concerns aren't anti-white, they're more class based.

Free Republic has been in full racism mode for a long time now. But here they prefer a more partisan take, blaming Democratic policies for the issue (because being partisan means never bothering to prove causation). This feeds into my theory that racism is a former tool of their partisanship gone rampant.

The other interesting thing about their reaction is the coexistence of calling for a police state and crying that this is part of Obama's plan to form a police state. Of course, most actual police states rely on stoking fear of some opposing tyrannical power to maintain legitimacy, so this checks out.
