I kinda expected Freepers to revel in the ugliness, but I once again oversestimated them. Like somany things, other countries serve mostly as spite factories for Freepers. Israel is a bit complicated by the religious angle, but in the end it's no different. So they've decided that Obama secretly used taxpayer money to create the aforementioned media/foreign/Arab conspiracy, making the Israeli election about Obama.

They live rent-free in my head, but in a very silly place that likes it when life is miserable.
We all have that tribal impulse. I'll admit I was looking forward to the meltdown and dissonance myself.

I worked on the other side of Jeremy Bird. What he did- go over and work with V15- isn't really uncommon at all. In fact, there are individuals I know who were solicited from Likud to campaign for them. I guess the only real difference is that Bird is a Baptist and not a Jew? Who knows?
ReplyDeleteThe guy was the national field director. I know that sounds really wonderful, but when I worked on Hillary Clinton's campaign, he would have been my immediate boss. And here I sit at about $42K a year working shitty campaigns with Republican assholes.
TL;DR: the extent to which Obama's influence in the Israeli elections is not really that huge, but don't tell that to Free Republic.
What they fail to notice is that when there aren't any active campaigns in the US, political operatives, both D and R, go all over the world to work campaigns for either end of the spectrum.

Israel's most conservative are the "settlers." Settlers live in government-financed housing closest to the Palestinian territories because they're typically in from the Diaspora and are mostly very poor. They also receive government financial support.
Ergo, the most conservative in Israel are the ones who are the Communists! They voted Likud or further right.
Not to worry ... freepers can always mine a few gems of misery from the jaws of victory.

I've been checking out FR for years and they go through these stages: they're excited about particular Republicans that they see as conservative...when they lose, they say it's because of voter fraud, but if they win, their circle jerk of congratulations (as if they did anything about the guy winning anyway) only lasts until the first sign that their may be a moderate (i.e.: normal) Republican. Then they bash the poor fool for daring to act with diplomacy towards Democrats!
