DeleteSee, there are two sorts of people in the safety net, those that legitimately would be starving without it, and those that coast on it.
Conservatives look only at the latter folks, and rage that somewhere someone is getting something they don't earn, while ignoring all the people legitimately helped.
Certainly some liberals ignore the latter group, but the folks I talk to seem to acknowledge that they exist, but have yet to see any reforms that don't destroy the virtuous poor.
I'm delighted that you feel that way, Comedian. No, really I am. Please make sure that Republicans declare those beliefs as loudly and proudly as you do. Romney gave kind of a mealy-mouthed "I'm not concerned about the very poor," but if he'd only learn to be more like you I would be very happy.
