My brother is a retired Sgt. Major U.S. Army. He wrote an email to us about Powell in 2008 and said the following:

HE WAS A PHONY ( POLITICIAN ) GENERAL FROM DAY ONE AND NEVER REALLY EVEN SAW ANY COMBAT IN HIS WHOLE CAREER.
HE SERVED AS AN ADVISOR TO A SMALL VIETNAMESE ARMY UNIT AS A JUNIOR OFFICER BEFORE THE WAR REALLY STARTED IN VIETNAM AND THAT WAS IT!
HE ONLY SERVED THERE A FEW MONTHS AND WENT BACK TO THE STATES BECAUSE OF A MINOR SKIN INFECTION HE GOT WHILE THERE ( SUPPOSEDLY FROM BEING INJURED BY A VIET CONG BOOBY TRAP MADE OUT OF SHARP BAMBOO STICKS ).
POWELL AND HIS DEPUTY SPENT MOST OF THEIR DAYS IN THE STATE DEPT. UNDERMINING GEORGE BUSH’S FOREIGN POLICY INSTEAD OF BEING A LOYAL CABINET MEMBER, AND THAT IS WHY HE WAS FORCED OUT!!!
HE IS A SNAKE OF THE HIGHEST ORDER AND IS OBVIOUSLY LOOKING FOR A NEW POSITION IN THE OBAMA PRESIDENCY SO HE CAN REHABILITATE HIS REPUTATION.
LIKE BIDEN, HE HAS BEEN WRONG ON MOST OF THE MAJOR ISSUES OF THE DAY; INCLUDING NOT SUPPORTING GOING INTO KUWAIT IN DESERT STORM, EVEN THOUGH HE FOUND HIMSELF HAVING TO DO SO AS THE CHAIRMEN OF THE JOINT CHIEFS OF STAFF, ONCE THE DECISION WAS MADE.
