A very Partisan Christmas

Freepers respond to the news that anonymous donors are paying off layaway accounts across the country:

Rebelbase is surprised any altruism exists in the age of Obama:

Seems almost alien in today’s society.

susannah59 sure has lost that loving feeling these days:

Americans, and American conservatives, and some of the most generous and giving people on earth.

We do, however, or at least I know I do, sometimes get a bit cynical and "compassion fatigued" because of the great numbers of people who seem to be living off of the rest of us, including taking advantage of charity to provide Christmas gifts and food for their own families while they spend their own money on themselves.

People who put things on layaway are attempting to provide for their families themselves and not depending on someone else to do it for them.

Except for, you know, the stores providing the layaway plans.

Theodore R. is sure these charitable souls must be Conservatives.
Conservatives are more generous than liberals, but they don’t get the credit. Even most conservatives probably think liberals are the more generous ones, based on media perceptions that they follow without challenge.
Chickensoup is feeling the Christmas spirit to such an extent he is willing to admit some of the poor aren't lazy parasites!
There is something called the “deserving poor.” They need our unstinting help and grace.
Buckeye McFrog is thrilled, but notes the inconvenience for management:
Not fun for the store management (as trying to manage layaway accounts, payments, and making sure only the right party picks up the layaway are major pains in the arse). But touching and heartwarming nonetheless.
Wiser now educates liberals about charity:

Note to liberals: this is the way Jesus intended for us to care for the poor. It’s personal. It stretches and blesses the giver and the receiver in ways the government can never match. Think about it.

Yeah, that worked great for the poor in the Victorian era!

BfloGuy knows Obama wants to kill this:
I bet Obama wishes he'd thought of it. But The Layaway Forgiveness Stimulus Bill just wouldn't have the same feeling -- or results.
E. Pluribus Unum also uses this story of human kindness to hate Obama.
I wonder what snarky insult Ubama could think up to say about this phenomenon?

He has contempt for anything that is not run by Commies.

Ozy commented, "Yeah, that worked great for the poor in the Victorian era!"

That's exactly it, Ozy. Things are better now and there is a reason that is so.

Peruse the Hogarth prints, Freepers, and tell me what's changed between then and now. Read some Dickens. Tell me what made the difference between those days and these.

  2. I can only assume those poor were the undeserving poor.

  3. I would laugh if this turns out to be the work of people affiliated with OWS. Then I would run to Free Republic and watch the heads explode.

  4. What would Freepers say about Obama writing checks to Americans down on their luck?

But then again, Freepers would never hear about it, as FOX nooz & Rush sure aren't going to tell them!
